Principal’s Biography

Welcome to Saint Hugh Catholic School. My name is Mrs. Mary E. Fernandez, Ed.S. and I am honored to be the school principal.

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida and attended Catholic schools: elementary, middle, high school and college. I am a strong believer in Catholic education! As dedicated Catholic educators, we play an important role in the faith formation of each student. We provide opportunities for growth and development in the education of the whole child.

I have worked at St. Hugh for the past 31 years as a teacher and administrator.
My husband and I have been married for 37 years and have three sons. All of our sons attended and graduated from St. Hugh.

I am an advocate of professional development and have continued to grow in my career through out the past 30 years. I hold the following degrees:
Barry University: Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education.
University of Miami: Masters of Science in Special Education and Early Childhood.
Barry University: Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Education.
I hold all valid certifications with the State of Florida.

As a member of this community for so many years, I was blessed to have worked alongside Sister Kathleen Donnelly, O.P. Sr. Kathleen is the finest example of a true Catholic educator. She dedicated 34 years of her life to this school as the principal and holds the record for being the Archdiocese of Miami’s longest serving principal.
She taught her students, parents, faculty, and staff the importance of providing an education founded by the values of our faith.
